Master Mantak Chia
Founder of the Universal Healing Tao System
Master Chia is the founder of the Universal Healing Tao in the U.S.A. and Tao Yoga in Europe. He has also established the Universal Tao Center and Tao Master School at Tao Garden Health Spa & Resort in Thailand. This is his worldwide center for Taoist training as well as for holistic healing, detoxification and rejuvenation. It is in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas in the northern Thailand countryside near Chiang Mai.
Master Chia's education
Recognized very early as having great potential for spiritual development, Mantak Chia was initiated into meditation practices by Buddhist monks at the age of 6. While studying in Hong Kong, he learned Tai Chi Chuan, Aikido and Kundalini Yoga from a variety of teachers. His pursuit of Taoist teachings lead him to meet the White Cloud Hermit, a Taoist Master originally from Central China, living at that time in the mountains not far from Hong Kong: Master Yi Eng was to become Master Mantak Chia's principle teacher.
Over a period of five years, Master Yi transmitted to Master Mantak Chia the most sacred and closely held Taoist practices, formulas and methods of internal alchemy, culminating in the Reunion of Heaven and Man. Realizing that as transmitted to him, these Immortal practices could not easily be absorbed by western students, Master Mantak Chia undertook to integrate them with his studies in western physical anatomy. Through this process he created a unique view of the internal aspects of these practices.
With the Universal Tao system, Mantak Chia has created for the first time a way for any individual to quickly get to the essence of subtle practices whose real purpose has been shrouded in secrecy for millenia. The author of dozens of books, booklets, videos and CDs describing the theory and methods of these practices, Master Mantak Chia has taught hundreds of thousands of eager students the principles of Taoist internal practice over the past 40 years. He has certified hundreds of Instructors and Practitioners to help in the transmission of these teachings.
My Master, Yi Eng: Inner Alchemy Practice
In the lineage through which Master Chia has come, they call themselves the ‘Inner-Alchemy-Just-Practice Taoists.’ Usually these people learn from many systems—even systems such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity—everything, including the science of today’s world.
Highly refined states of inner experience and consciousness are the birthright of all humans and are accessible by all! Inner-Alchemy-Just-Practice Taoists combine all the things that are effective. They take out what is not necessary, including all rituals and ceremonies. They go to the mountains, practice and come down to teach and help people.
Master Chia comes from this lineage because his Master, Yi Eng (I Yun) finally decided to go to the mountain and practice things in this way. He was practicing and searching for all the masters in the mountains. Finally Master Yi Eng met his 'grandmaster', and learned the whole system which he consequently passed on to Master Chia. The master gave no initiation, no celebration, nothing at all—just pure practice.
The nine formulas of Taoist internal spiritual cultivation that Master Chia teaches were originally transmitted to him by Master Yi Eng ( White Cloud). It took many generations of masters to refine their amazing experiences into nine practical stages of Inner Alchemy. Master Yi Eng instructed Master Chia to teach these to Chinese first and then to Westerners. White Cloud left his body at age 96.
Keeping the structure of White Cloud’s formulas, Master Chia has added his own refinements based on study with many masters. Likewise, he has also drawn from his studies in Western anatomy, astronomy, astrology, medical science and the advancements in the field of quantum sciences. He has combined all of these sources with over forty years of practice and teaching.
